Union Leader to halt some Saturday obituaries
The Union Leader Newspaper recently announced that effective immediately, they will stop publishing a Saturday newspaper outside the Manchester area. With this change, families will not longer be able to run obituaries in the paper on Saturday outside the Greater Manchester area. This is of concern for those wanting to be able to notify family and friends of a death throughout the state. While this may sound like a drastic step, it is becoming commonplace throughout the country. A number of major newspapers have all but eliminated daily obituary listings in recent months and more are slated to do so. Industry experts predict that it is just a matter of time before newspapers stop publishing obituaries altogether. We have known this has been coming for quite some time which is the reason we have invested so much into our website obituaries pages. Not only are these listings less than local papers, our website obituaries are often posted within hours of an individual passing away, allowing family and friends to plan accordingly. We have also aligned ourselves with Tributes ( www.tributes.com), the country’s largest on-line obituary repository.
